About Us

W. L. Roenigk is the largest privately owned school bus company in Western Pennsylvania. Yet despite our size, we maintain a small family-owned atmosphere with both our employees and the districts we serve.

Founded in 1945 by William L. Roenigk Sr., the company is now in its 75th year and is operated by three generations of family members. It is not a secret that hard work, superior service to our districts, and respect for our employees are the reasons for our longevity. While some may think that bigger is better, we believe that providing a safe, personalized operation to the best of our abilities is far more important. Being the biggest is an honor, but being the best is what we do every day.

Over the years, we have expanded from our main location in Sarver, PA to nine locations throughout the Greater Pittsburgh Area. We are focused in Allegheny, Armstrong, Butler, and Westmoreland counties and serve 25 districts within the area. We are always looking for qualified individuals to join our family as CDL Bus Drivers, Van Drivers, Mechanics, and Monitors.

Family Facts

In 1945, William L. Roenigk Sr., started a small excavation company with a dump truck and a lot of determination.

Married three times and the father of eleven children, Bill Roenigk never let adversity stand in his way. He purchased his first school bus and contracted with the Buffalo Township Consolidated School currently known as Freeport Area School District. The company has continued to serve the residents of the Freeport School District since that time.

Bill married his third wife, Jeanne Korbeck in 1954. They had eight children together and grew the family business. When Bill passed away in 1991, the company had three locations in Sarver, Natrona Heights and Leechburg. Jeanne Roenigk and their eight children incorporated the company and it became known as W. L. Roenigk Inc. The oldest son, Billy Jr., had great ambitions of his own and helped increase the size of the company to ten locations and over 900 employees. Billy lost his battle with leukemia in 2013 and the middle daughter Susan was named as the new President.

All of the children play a role in the company. Bob was an owner operator and leased his truck to the company. Pat, the oldest daughter is an attorney but contributes her expertise with legal advice. Sue was the office manager at Sarver since college and was given her new role in 2013. Dave concentrates on bus driving and grounds maintenance. He also manages the family farm in Natrona Heights. Mike worked for years in the excavation portion of the company but took on the challenge of running the Hampton location in 2013. Nancy (Buffy) is the supervisor for the Freeport School District school buses.

The company is currently the 19th largest School Bus company in the United States according to School Bus Fleet Magazine. We also had the honor of being named the Largest Woman Owned Business in the South Western Pennsylvania Area by the Pittsburgh Business Times for the third consecutive year.
